VFDs and drives

A variable frequency drive (VFD) controls motor speed. On pumps and fans that do not need to run at full speed all the time, a correctly applied drive can cut energy use substantially and reduce mechanical wear.

What the work includes

  • Drive selection and sizing for the motor and load
  • Installation, cabling and harmonics considerations
  • Parameter setting, tuning and commissioning
  • Integration with PLC or SCADA control
  • Fault diagnosis and replacement of failed drives

When to call us

  • Pumps or fans are throttled with valves or dampers
  • Motors start direct-on-line and cause mechanical shock or voltage dips
  • A process needs adjustable speed
  • An existing drive trips or has failed

Common questions

How much energy can a VFD save?

It depends on the load and how it runs today. Savings are usually largest on pumps and fans that run below full flow for long periods. We estimate savings from measured data before you decide.

Do drives cause power quality problems?

They can add harmonics. We assess this during design and specify filters or other measures where needed.

Describe your site and the problem. An engineer reviews every request and replies with next steps, usually starting with a site assessment.
